The module is organised as a Design Studio complemented by thematic sessions/seminars, intended to support the overall development of students’ ideas and projects.

A first thematic strand is introduced at the very beginning of the module, in the form of an introduction to Research in Architecture, and Research skills and methods towards your final dissertation/thesis. This includes a brief overview of some tactics and tools students may want to employ during their term (and beyond it, in preparation for their thesis), also in relation to their design proposals (research by design). (Ioanni Delsante)

A second thematic strand is named ‘Cooperatives at different scales’. It will expose students to the topic of cooperatives, with a specific focus (but not limited to) case studies in Milan. (Peggy Deamer)

A third and last thematic strand is named Architecture as experience and it provides laboratories about composition methods for design through field trips and exercises through multidisciplinary approaches. Milan as physical and cultural cultural context is , elected as main case study (Carlo Berizzi)

Transversely to the above mentioned strands, and as key objective of the Design Studio, students will develop an individual design proposal which will seek consistency with the above mentioned activities.

Such proposal will be developed in the studio, also through one to one tutorials and group discussions with tutors and peers. It will be finally developed in the form of a portfolio / drawings.
