The Precision Medicine course, previously referred to as the personalised medicine course, is a relatively recent addition to the Harvey Medicine course curriculum. The course aims at providing the student with the concepts of Precision medicinecurrent clinical examples of state-of-the-art technologies and the basic scientific knowledge on which they are based with a strong reference to basic and fundamental research of past and present
Precision medicine gained momentum after the sequencing of the human genome at the beginning of the 21st century and was further accelerated by huge advancements made in DNA sequencing, analytical, imaging, and diagnostic technologies combined with the a rapidly-increasing understanding of the molecular basis for disease and, equally important, huge financial investments by governments and industries.

The future of Medicine is Personalised/Precision Medicine and the course will demonstrate its current application in Pavia and many other leading research hospitals around the world but also provides a critical note on its correct implementation. In other words, this an "essential" optional course for future doctors.

The lectures are given by Professor Luca Malcovati and Professor Hugo de Jonge  both from the Department of Molecular Medicine at Pavia University.
