The course Psychology of Aging is situated within the field of cognitive psychology and provides an in-depth overview of cognitive and socio-cognitive changes associated with the aging process in both research and clinical contexts. It introduces students to key theoretical models, empirical findings, and methodological approaches that are essential for understanding age-related transformations in domains such as memory, attention, intelligence, and executive functioning.
Particular attention is devoted to the distinction between normal and pathological aging, including conditions such as subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia. The course also addresses age-related changes in decision-making and prosocial behavior. Through a combination of lectures, discussions of scientific literature, and practical activities, students will develop critical thinking skills and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to the analysis and evaluation of psychological processes in aging.
