The course consists of 12 lessons scheduled between March and June. Each session will focus on a different topic related to nutrition and human health. The aim of the course is to progressively build knowledge, lesson by lesson, in order to develop a broad and integrated understanding of nutrition.
Each lesson will begin with a short review of the previous class, conducted interactively. Students will be asked to prepare the material from the previous lecture to consolidate key concepts and maintain continuity throughout the course. This activity is intended to strengthen understanding and support preparation for the final exam.
Active participation during the lessons, especially during the review sessions, will be considered an integral part of the course. Attendance and engagement may contribute to the assignment of an additional point toward achieving honors in the final exam.
The course will address nutrition not only in terms of nutrients and requirements but also in relation to health, food choices, dietary patterns, public health, and sustainability. Topics will include the role of lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates; the importance of vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds; the Mediterranean and vegetarian diets; energy expenditure; food labeling; nutritional guidelines; and the connection between nutrition and global challenges.
By the end of the course, students will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of nutrition and will be able to relate it to human health, everyday life, and broader social and environmental issues.
