The course will cover basic knowledge on general genetics including:
- Human Genome Project
- Basic concepts in genetics (mutation and polymorphisms, Mendelian genetics, complex disease)
- Linkage analysis, linkage disequilibrium
- Epigenetics
- Genetic engineering and gene therapy
The course will also cover Mendelian disorders and cancer genetics:
- Thalassemias
- Cistic fibrosis
- Neurodegenerative disorders
- Diseases associated to defects in DNA repair mechanisms
- The genetics of hereditary and sporadic cancers (tumor types presented are: colorectal cancer, endocrine/neuroendocrine tumors, among others)
